Topeka man sentenced for

Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Katie Garceran told 27 News in a written statement that Justice Cox is being sentenced to 46 months in prison and 24 months of post-release supervision Thursday, June 13 for his part in a deadly crash in 2023. The crash resulted in the death of 23-year-old Brett Joynt. According to Garceran, Cox plead guilty to the following charges: One count of involuntary manslaughter- commission of a crime (32 months) One count of flee or attempt to elude police- felony (7 months) One count of interference with a law enforcement officer- false information (7 months) The Topeka Police Department (TPD) responded to the crash at 2:15 a.m. on Dec. 25, 2023 in the 100 block of SE 37th Street. The driver of a vehicle was heading west on SE 37th Street when the vehicle left the road, hit a utility pole and came to a stop in a nearby yard. California DA drops charges

An elementary school teacher in Northern California will not face charges for allegedly being drunk while teaching in a classroom, a local district attorney's office said Monday. Wendy Munson, a second-grade teacher at Nuestro Elementary School in Live Oak, California, was arrested on Oct. 2, 2023, for charges of DUI and child endangerment. Sutter County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of a teacher who allegedly drove to school drunk, and they reported that they saw her visibly impaired while teaching students. A fellow staff member at Nuestro Elementary School reportedly contacted police, who said Munson was in the middle of teaching students when officers confronted her.

Sarah Boone is like Goldilocks trying to find the right defense lawyer. Her eighth attorney, Patricia Cashman, was "too snotty," said the suspected murderer, who allegedly zipped up her boyfriend in a suitcase during what Boone claimed was a game of hide-and-seek. Boone called another lawyer of hers a "dud" and a "buffoon," Court TV reported. Her seventh lawyer, she claimed in letters to the court, could not talk to counsel. One lawyer said Boone should "represent herself as no attorney can satisfy her," and another said their relations became "adversarial," according to a report by Fox 35 Orlando based on court filings.
